I never really liked Doctor Who. Sure, I used to love the show when I was a kid (probably because I was a kid) but even then, I was repelled by its cheap production values. And if a seven year old kid can notice that, it means they were really bad. But, despite that, it was science fiction, it could scare me from time to time and the theme song is one of my favorite theme songs to date.
The facts remain, though. Doctor Who is a silly show with a silly universe. Sure, in the hands of a good writer everything can turn to gold. But even a good, modern Dalek story, filled with drama and maturity is still a story in which the enemy is a tin can. Doctor Who will for ever remain a show where the best episode is as good as 'I robot, You Jane" from the first Buffy season. That doesn't mean it can't be entertaining of course. Like Star Trek, if you switch off your brain, throw your common sense out of the window, forget you ever went to school and allow yourself to degrade to Doctor Who's universe, it can be marvelous. And David Tennant is fantastic. Hence today's strip.
